{"id":173,"date":"2012-06-23T14:11:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-23T14:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tashajaeger.com\/blog\/fine-mesh-salt-smoking-basket\/"},"modified":"2012-06-23T14:11:00","modified_gmt":"2012-06-23T14:11:00","slug":"fine-mesh-salt-smoking-basket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.tashajaeger.com\/blog\/fine-mesh-salt-smoking-basket\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine Mesh Salt Smoking Basket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I wanted to try smoking my own sea salt.&nbsp; Admittedly, I only have my grill to smoke foods, so I knew I wouldn&#8217;t get as concentrated of smoke flavor as I would if I had my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000Y1RNFK\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=idesee-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000Y1RNFK\">dream electric smoker<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=idesee-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B000Y1RNFK\" height=\"1\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" width=\"1\" \/>, but hey. The bigger problem, and one that I could not find anything to fix,was something to put the salt into.&nbsp; Most of the recipes I found said to put the salt in a pie plate.&nbsp; I wanted something that would allow the smoke to permeate throughout the salt, as well as something that I could use to grill small things in the future.&nbsp; So&#8230; I decided to design one.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-lDkE-LZiH3E\/T-XKgKdX6gI\/AAAAAAAAAoA\/MyHugzOj048\/s1600\/101_5294.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-lDkE-LZiH3E\/T-XKgKdX6gI\/AAAAAAAAAoA\/MyHugzOj048\/s320\/101_5294.JPG\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" \/>&nbsp;<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">First, I procured a piece of very, very fine stainless steel mesh.&nbsp; This particular mesh is a filter mesh; it&#8217;s 80 Mesh \/ 177 Micron Screen (very very fine). The sea salt I&#8217;m using will sit in here without a problem; you could put table salt in this and it wouldn&#8217;t go through.&nbsp; The edges are pretty sharp, however, so first:<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; I actually fold them twice over, so that the raw edge is completely covered&nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-523lAa1urJU\/T-XKj0PooWI\/AAAAAAAAAoQ\/RTuftwAiaUg\/s1600\/101_5298.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-523lAa1urJU\/T-XKj0PooWI\/AAAAAAAAAoQ\/RTuftwAiaUg\/s320\/101_5298.JPG\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Now I use a wet erase marker and the ruler to mark two inches in, to make the folds for the sides.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; I&#8217;ve decided to hand-rivet the corners with brass rivets.&nbsp; It&#8217;ll be safe for food, but soft enough I can do the riveting by hand.&nbsp; First I&#8217;ll have to make holes for the rivets.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; The punch isn&#8217;t strong enough to do all the holes at once (and probably won&#8217;t be terribly good at punching paper after this&#8230;)<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-NYRms838qC8\/T-XKoWSPKMI\/AAAAAAAAAo4\/llpTBOaowNU\/s1600\/101_5309.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;
